But even if the market continues to grow rapidly, there will still be plenty of new cars priced below the $25,000 mark in 2023, with some entry-level models even starting at $20,000. Please note that all prices below include unavoidable destination charges. Manufacturers like Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai continue to be the bulk of the brands offering the most affordable cars on the market, but there have been some surprises. The top 20 featured a small pickup, several SUVs, and even some hybrids.
Kia Soul: Price $21,215
The 2023 Kia Soul gets a new design, including new headlights, bumper updates, and even new safety tech. Notably, every Soul is now equipped with lane-keep assist features, including driver attention alert and high-beam assist. The 2023 Kia Soul has a base price of $21,215, including destination charge.
Nissan Sentra: Price $21,045
Ahead of the Kicks is the Sentra, a competitor to the Nissan-Honda Civic. The Sentra beats most of its competitors starting at $21,045 in 2023 with standard equipment like Nissan Safety Shield 360, automatic emergency braking, and up to 33 mpg.
Subaru Impresa: Price $20.815
The 2023 Subaru Impreza sedan costs $500 less than the hatchback. You also get a standard manual transmission and the same all-wheel drive as its hatchback counterpart.
Kia Forte: Price $20.815
Kia’s compact Forte is one of the most affordable options in its class. In fact, the Corolla starts at $20,815, which is more than $3,000. Standard features include a 2.0-liter engine with 147 horsepower, 34 mpg and technology like an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Hyundai Venue: Price $20.795
The Hyundai Venue is America’s cheapest SUV, cheaper than the Kicks and Soul. The base SE model is just $20,795 in the US. It will be available in 2023 and includes standard automatic emergency braking, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and a 121-horsepower engine with up to 31 mpg combined.
Kia Rio: Price $18.815
The Rio 5-Door is second only to the Mitsubishi Mirage in the US for affordable hatchbacks. Starting at $18,815, the Rio is a basic hatchback with few standard features, but an $1,800 Tech Package adds features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen and additional safety equipment.
Mitsubishi Mirage G4: Price $18.290
The G4, the sibling to the standard Phantom, is Mitsubishi’s four-door version. Both cars offered very basic features, such as cloth seats and a three-cylinder engine that produced only 78 horsepower.
Kia Rio Sedan: Price $17.875
Hyundai may have killed the subcompact Accent in the US, but you can still buy its brother, the Kia Rio. The sedan version of the Rio starts at $18,515 (as you can see, the hatchback is more expensive), with features very basics such as air conditioning and a 120-horsepower four-cylinder engine.
Mitsubishi Mirage: Price $17.290
Mitsubishi’s Marine Wrath Building was the most affordable car in the United States. The starting price in 2023 was $17,290. At least it’s still the most affordable hatchback in the country. Under the hood is the same three-cylinder engine that produces 78 horsepower.
Nissan Versa: Price $16.755
The most affordable car in America in 2023 is the Nissan Versa. Starting at $16,755 for the base S model with a five-speed manual transmission, the Versa is a sedan available with standard equipment like front and rear automatic emergency braking, high-beam assist, and up to 30 miles per gallon.
